The Spit Take Residency awards $2500 to comedy artists to support the development of new and innovative work.

We are excited to announce the first cohort of Spit Take Residency Artists and their projects:

  • Christina Catherine Martinez: Christina will be researching and workshopping new material for a multimedia comedy show inspired by her love of movies and her love for America.

  • Devohn Bland: Devohn Bland and His Keyboard: A Live Event mixes stand-up with music, building off of Devohn’s experiments with comedy during the pandemic, creating collective joy and making those in positions of power uncomfortable.

  • Monica Coleslaw: Juniper is a multimedia storytelling show, blending photos, home videos, and various ephemera with stories about Monica shifting through personas to try to find something that fits.

  • SuperGroup: Is collectivism crumbling all around us? Should SuperGroup stay here and keep making performances with a faith that us making for each other is what the making is all about? They won't exactly be staging a union meeting nor a community town hall, and they won't exactly be dancing those structures either, but maybe something somewhere in between.

Click on the artists’ names above to learn more about their projects!
